21 January 2015 - Feeling like locals here in Bangkok.

The good thing about staying in one place for a month or so is that we can have, and in fact need to have, our rest days.  Today was one of those days.

Bangkok is a city of contrasts: rich versus poor, modern versus traditional, state of the art shopping centres versus little street carts, beggars versus very wealthy and of course stinky smells versus bakery aromas!  We experienced all of these in our walk to Big C Supermarket.

Shopping list included pineapples for 19 Baht each - succulent and morish, Thai ice creams of various descriptions for 15 Baht each, a variety of Asian greens and some meat for tonight.  The smell/stink of durian is quite overwhelming, especially when it is sliced and packaged and right neat the checkout!

Quite a selection of pineapples!

The kids were hanging out for the pizza slices from Anroma Bakery for lunch and I had my daily bubble tea.
Milk coffee tea?!  I'll stick to my green milk tea with bubbles thanks!
We are trying to encourage the kids to start their distance education packages as school officially returns next week.  They all did some school work today, not too reluctantly.  Luke spent the late afternoon at the pool with some other children whose nannies meet up in the afternoon.  Karl enjoyed some pool side reading while he supervised Luke and we all enjoyed a bit of "brain space" without Luke leaping on us!

  1. Having grown up in Thailand, Mum always hated the smell of durian!

    1. Durian is stinky bit I did venture to try a piece of freeze dried durian at the airport , the taste of which lingered for way longer than necessary and I felt as if I was breathing gas when I spoke!
