It was my last breakfast with Winette for this time in London as we are leaving Friday and tomorrow is a train strike. The crowds at Waterloo Station are phenomenal so I can't imagine where they'll all end up tomorrow without the underground working.
Afterwards, Annika met me under the clocks and we walked to Oxford Street for shopping. It was further than we estimated but pleasant. I bought my shoes with no trouble and quite quickly at Sports Direct and then we walked to Primark where Annika decided on a tee shirt. We were interviewed by BBC 4 en route but I didn't ask for what program. The question was what we thought about sharing commodities with others. I mentioned that we were travelling for a year and staying in Airbnb which embraces the whole sharing idea. So if you hear me.... Annika and I had a lovely girls' time together and hopped on the 98 Bus to Kilburn and were home in no time.
Hampstead Heath Parliament Hill |
Tim walked an amazing 33 kms
today in his quest to try a salted beef roll in Brick Lane! London is a
huge city and he manages to navigate it all very well. There is always
an option to take public transport but he chooses to run/walk. Good on
you, Tim! He really enjoyed his lunch treat, too!

.The
rest of us walked to Hampstead Heath, probably only about a quarter of
the distance Tim trod out but good exercise none-the-less. The Heath is
the subject of many paintings and so I was eager to see it. From
Parliament Hill there is a good view of London. Not only that, it has
some great playgrounds and facilities and plenty of green space.

I have been on a quest to find a crochet hook and Annika has been
looking for embroidery thread. It seemed that no-one in London does any
craft! Finally when we were walking home, quite out of the blue, I saw
an op-shop and asked if they had any crochet hooks. They had just had
some things which they thought might be what I wanted but weren't
sure!! And there they were, a set of colourful crochet hooks all for a
pound! Yeah! AND Annika found embroidery thread three shops away in an
art shop! Misson accomplished!
Crochet Hook bargain! |
After that success, the walk home seemed short!! Annika cooked dinner for us which was lovely and is now busily making friendship bracelets with the newly acquired thread.
Gorgeous post!
ReplyDeleteLove it when you unexpectedly find exactly what you need!! A lovely day!!
ReplyDeleteI had asked in so many shops if they stocked crochet hooks and no one seemed to have seen one for years and then voila! there they were and the op-shop lady wasn't quite sure if that's what they were!! Yeah!
