12 July 2015 - A quiet Sunday

Being Sunday, we had Googled a local church to go to.  Karl came across Banbury Community Church which we liked the sound of.  The church meets in the local arts centre and is a  relaxed congregation of friendly people of all ages.  With a bit of encouragement and my offering to go with him, Luke decided to go to the kids' program; "Wave Makers".  We had fun in the kids' program, Luke enjoyed it and even spent time with some of the kids afterwards!  We met some lovely people who couldn't quite work out why we have come to rest in Banbury for a while!  The short answer, of course, is that it was affordable on our travel budget, out of London and a bit closer to the Cotswolds and some people we want to catch up with and had space for all of us!  It also happens to be near a nice canal, not too far from amenities and is quiet.  Finding Banbury Community Church was a bonus!

Sunday drivers!
After a cuppa and chat at church we wandered by the canal to watch the Sunday long boats go up and down the locks.  Tim and Luke assisted  with the heavy gates.  Poor Tim strained his back doing so, so I  hope it feels better soon.

Going down - all happens quickly
We realised that our flat might not have been locked properly so instead of walking on along the canal we walked back home and decided we should probably do a big shop and stock our kitchen as we'll be here for a month.

A Roborovski Dwarf Hamster - 2 for 17 pounds!
It turned out to be fortuitous as suddenly the dark clouds came over and the downpour started!  We managed our big shop AND found a helpful "Knowhow" desk at a PC Warehouse who helped charge my camera battery and resolve my camera issue!  The micro USB port isn't working BUT as I can charge my battery and transfer photos from the SD card, I can once again use my trusty camera!!  Also as part of our shopping adventure we visited a pet shop where they sold degus, gerbils and a variety of dwarf hamsters as well as rabbits, rats and reptiles!

A Degu - endemic to Chile, also known as the Brush Tailed Rat - VERY cute!
It was a relaxing afternoon which we all needed.  Luke watched some television.  On children's programs, there is a sign language interpreter on the right of the screen.  One of the programs he watched was a lovely one called "Katie Morag" about a Scottish girl who lives on a island.  It reminded me of the gentle BBC children's programs I watched from time to time as a kid.

  2. Love the contrast in these last posts compared to London! Glad you are settling into your new place and I hope you get the washing machine sorted out! The weather here has been freezing so enjoy the sunshine while you can :)
