5 July 2015 - Back to Walthamstow

Tim took himself off to see the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace whilst the rest of us went to Greenleaf Baptist Church for the last time before we leave London.  The sermon was on the Good Samaritan.  We stayed for a cuppa afterwards and a chat with the delightful Edna and Elaine and Peter Nash and Luke enjoyed playing with the kids there.  I was delighted to be given a bunch of flowers from the church display, some of which were grown in dear Edna's garden.

Then, as is our usual post Greenleaf activity, we walked with Winette to Lloyd Park for cheap and lovely cappuccinos and for Luke to play with more kids in the great sand play area there.  We must have talked with Winette for ages because it was 4.30 by the time we got back to the station.

Lloyd Park moat with green algae and pink bacteria!
The lake in Lloyd Park not only had the green algae we have noticed in other water around London since the "heat wave" but the water was a stinky pink colour.  The notice informed us that it was caused by a natural bacteria.

So now you know...!

Our intention was to go the big Salvation Army parade down The Mall, but we'd missed it!  We decided to walk through Green Park and past Buckingham Palace and up the Mall to Charing Cross Station.  The Mall is closed to traffic on Sundays so it was fun just wandering down the Mall from the Palace to Marble Arch.

Love the Tube poetry!
Walking along the streets of Mayfair and Knightsbridge, London seemed so busy with so many people and the traffic was so heavy.

The Queen Mother (Queen Elizabeth but not Elizabeth I as she was Queen by marriage) and King George VI
It was an ordinary sort of day, not so different from a Sunday at home when we go to church and often for a picnic or excursion afterwards and we did enjoy it!
