So glad to see the sun shining this morning after all the rain yesterday!

The kids and I had a brisk walk and Annika then cooked some delicious biscuits while I walked to Banbury station to meet Winette and Michael's train.

After a cuppa and biscuits we started on our canal walk. We went
through the woods and it was great to have Michael, an avid plant and
bird watcher, to identify all sorts of plants that had been a mystery to
us. As it happened we saw a heron and a buzzard and a crested grebe.

We discovered Cherwood River and then Grimsbury Reservoir and
found a seat for lunch. We also discovered Spiceball Park which has a
lovely lot of wandering paths and shady glades.

I am really enjoying spotting the insects on the plants. Weeds can look wonderful by walking paths. Well, maybe they are not weeds, but wildflowers!! The insects certainly love the abundance of growth and blooms.

I think we could have talked forever and it was so lovely
to see Winette and Michael again and just enjoy a day with them. It has
been great not rushing in our travels and being able to spend time with
people. On a quick trip, the temptation is to see as much as you can
and fit in as much as possible but with slow travel, we don't have to.
It has given me great pleasure to be able to see friends I haven't seen
for quarter of a century and to introduce them to my family! Friendship
is two ways, of course, and the majority of the people we have met up
with have been faithful correspondents for all those years - and I guess
I have too!

The time went too quickly and before we knew it we were walking with our
guests back to the station and heading back for delicious assortment
roast vegetables for dinner.
