25 December 2014 - A Thai Christmas during which we discover a secret cove!

I snuck out early to go to buy a few local treats for the kids, as although we had said no presents, I really wanted to give them a little something for Christmas Day.  The Sun Minimart, Loh’s shop served us well with things such as a skipping rope, stationery, nail clippers and nail polish and some biscuits and some stale toblerone – chocolate and the tropics don’t mix!!  Armed with pancakes and some doughnuts, I wrapped the presents in our towels and laid the table on the balcony for breakfast.  Annika made a card for us all from a tourist brochure which was innovative and sweet.  So, that was Christmas breakfast!  My Camera wasn’t working as I hadn't charged it!
Bridge over little tidal river.

Boats moored in the shallows.

Apparently rain was predicted for the day but the weather looked fine for a walk.  A local Irishman had told me about the Ship Inn Bar/Restaurant and we set out on our walk.  It was poorly sign posted but we walked 1.9 kms up a steep hill and down another to the most tranquil, beautiful panorama.  Paradise!  And there, right on the beach was the Beach Bar.  We walked along the beach and rocks to the next bay.  The kids were greatly entertained by some swings tied to palm trees on the beach.  Little sand crabs scuttled here and there and the water lapped gently at the shore. I wore my red scarf from Louise Sebafundi because it was Christmas Day.

Can't get enough of this rugged coastline

Merry Christmas

Traditional handstand for Christmas Day and other celebrated days!

The tide came in and we made it around the rocks back to the secret cove and ordered lunch.  A feast which came slowly but perfectly: sweet and sour pork, sticky rice in cute wicker containers, green chicken curry, fried squid and chips, beef and cashew nuts cooked to perfection.  We shared a green coconut drink and finished with mango and watermelon fruit smoothies.  Memorable, relaxed and serene.  The kids and I played Uno and Luke played on the swing.  Whilst we would have loved to go to church, it wasn't possible, and we enjoyed a day of being awestruck by God's beautiful creation around us.

Karl got a lovely green coconut...

Note coconut and background, not to mention beautiful girl!

Deep fried Squid just melted in our mouths...yummy and memorable.

Merry Christmas from us!

The kids tried out a hammock on the beach which caught Annika’s beads and we had fun untangling it!!  The beach swings were heaps of fun.

We'll always remember the peace filled Christmas Day here in Phuket
