9 April 2015 - Worth mentioning....

I think we can officially declare that spring is here as the sensational clear blue skies continue!  The days just beckon for us to go out and enjoy them and we have the absolute luxury to do so!

It is always good to have a purpose for a walk.  This morning's walk was a circuitous route to the shop to buy some balloons for Annika to do a school science experiment - one of those balloon driven cars for a unit on energy.

St George's horse trough
On our way we walked past St George's Church and graveyard, noting all the members of this community who have gone before us.  I had passed the old horse trough before and indeed had already taken a photo of it but it was Luke's observation that made us all look closely!  He noticed the fossilised ammonites and other prehistoric remains as well as geodes!  Wow!  It is always worthwhile seeing things from a 7 year old perspective!

Trust Luke's "dinosaur" eyes to notice these amazing relics!
We took quite a while checking out all the fascinating components of the base rock.  We have no idea where the rock came from but the church was built in 1370.  We have yet to meet a local historian who can give us all the details and folklore of this area.
Sparkling geodes!

Luke checking out his finds and giving us a detailed description - in his element!

We walked around the back of the sports' field where the kids made use of the athletic track!  On to the supermarket and our search for the balloons.  We searched all of the shelves and couldn't see any so we rehearsed our German in readiness to ask the checkout lady.  She understood us but they had no balloons for sale HOWEVER she handed us some promotional balloons for free!! Yeah for nice people!!

Go Tim!!!
More schoolwork!  Now that with have a printer and can print out some of the booklets and worksheets for Luke to work from, he is much happier!  I have had to copy down the worksheets by hand and he has worked from them since we left Bodrum and it has made the distance schooling all the more difficult with him (and me!).  Today, he had some printed worksheets to work from and was SO much more cooperative. The day was not without frustration but so much better.

Standing at the top of our steps, looking over the roofs!
Lunch was an interesting mix.  The kartoffelnudeln(?) which looked like big white slugs according to Annika (!) turned out to be like gnocchi and the salami was a hit with Luke so it was all a bit of fun!
Twin spring lambs with their tails!

Our afternoon exploring on some different forest paths led us on a lovely walk over the little stream and through the trees.  No-one was complaining about our ramble as we were all enjoying the lovely day.  Once again we were happy to wander off the path with no fear of snakes!
Rock hopping!
Loving our walk!

Bright yellow against the blue sky.

We are planning an outing in the car tomorrow so the kids are keen to finish their week's schoolwork tonight so they can enjoy the day.  This is a major advantage of Distance Education/home school and the outing tomorrow will no doubt have some educational value.

  1. yay for spring time and kind shop assistants! I too, like Jane have enjoyed my morning cuppa reading over your latest adventures :) Keep up the good work, I would have trouble remembering what I got up to a few days ago so the discipline of writing it up each day will be worth it! stay safe on your journey tomorrow xo

    1. Thanks Kylie, I feel like I have a fan club!!! We had a speaker at MOPS once who spoke on journalling and she did inspire me to record some of the "normal" things in life and I journalled as she recommended for a while in a good old notebook and stuck in memorabilia of the day such as cards from coffee shops etc, I remembering cutting out a sudoku puzzle from the Age and reflecting on my Saturday mornings not long before we stopped getting the Age in paper form and it made me realise how quickly the "normal" might become history and a bygone era! Many blessings x Helen
