The beds were so comfortable and the house so quiet and dark with the shuttered windows that we all had a great sleep in. Just what we needed!
Our hosts, neighbours, came over with offerings of homemade bread, pies and fresh eggs and big apologies for not realising we arrived yesterday rather than today!! We have a story to tell and so do we!! They have two children here, much to Luke's delight, so he has friends to play with here as well.

Baguettes in our garden! |
It was lovely talking to them and finding out about this little village and house. This house is a former pig's barn. It has been wonderfully fitted out and has everything we need. The garden even has play equipment and a trampoline!
As there are no shops in this little village or the next, we drove to Rochechard and found Aldi to stock our pantry. Shops are all closed on Sundays so we need to make sure we have enough food!

Stones and cornerstones |
It was time to stretch our legs and explore! We walk up the road and through the village. We saw no one and the place seemed deserted. The old 12th century church was open, but unlike German churches which are well maintained because of church taxes, was mildewy and had rising damp creeping up the walls. We walked through the graveyard and it seemed that there were many more dead people than alive! The village had clearly been populated once upon a time.

Needs a bit of love! |
We walked to the plage, the beach at our local lake. It is beautiful and the colours looked like a water colour painting. The clouds were gathering and we could hear distant thunder and decided to start walking home. We got soaking wet but by the time we had warmed up and changed into new clothes, the sun was out!

Videix! |
What a beautiful place, if somewhat deserted! Soup sounds lovely for lunch, may have to make some for our Sunday lunch. Off to church this morning to hear Sons of Korah, can't wait! :)
ReplyDeleteSorry to miss Sons of Korah - enjoy their music - they were fantastic last year! This is the part of France with the least dense population. Most villages seem to be hardly inhabited but obviously were in days gone by.
