Rainy days are part of springtime and more and more flowers are blooming. There is so much colour along the pavements.
Today I managed all conversations with shopkeepers in German. They didn't correct me (maybe they were just polite!) and they did understand me (well I got what I wanted!): grocery items, bakery items and a stamp! Getting more confident! Tim even managed to crush the appel schorle (delicious drink) bottle in the special bottle crusher and get his 0.25 Euro reward for recycling.
School was arduous - but enough of that! We achieved and moved forward.
We decided to walk back to Markdorf to the bakery we went to the other day. It was drizzly and chilly, but rugged up sufficiently, we didn't really notice it. Besides, if you know you are not out in the elements for too long, a bit of rain doesn't worry you.

We took a different track up on the high road to Markdorf, through the vineyards, and back lanes. Very peaceful and not so windy as the other day.

Sheep with tails!! |
A little flock of coloured sheep followed us with their collective gaze. The little lamb nuzzled into his mother and its tail spun in excited circles as he suckled. Now that's something you don't see in Australia: sheep with tails!
"A murmuring brook sings the song of Spring..." |
We spotted a forest path which we would love to explore once the ground dries out a bit. There are plenty of walking paths around here.
Approaching Markdorf |
It was good to reach the bakery and sit in the warmth of the cafe. The rain really started pouring and people rushed by the window with umbrellas and hoods on...and we had 3.5 kms to walk back to Bermatingen! We didn't rush our bakery treat! We had tucked into the delicacies before we could take a photo but believe me the almond/marzipan glazed pretzel was sensational as was the fresh strawberry glazed cream sponge wedge! The hilly walk and chilly weather should hopefully balance the caloric input!

It sounds gentle, and it sounds peaceful, and I hope you all sleep well!

ReplyDeleteNice to see you are settled for a while. The constant travelling while great can be exhausting!
ReplyDeleteSo true, Anne,...slow travel is our aim...from now on, it is mostly a month in each place or longer..we can catch up with school and gather our collective thoughts!
