20 April 2015 - Luke meets a friend and an afternoon walk

Lovely Bermatingen beckoned us to go walking and enjoy her blossoms and orchards and hills.  We wish we had taken photos of the apple trees when we first got here as they have changed so much in the three weeks and now blossoms adorn the previously bare branches.  So so lovely.

When the sky is so clear we can see many planes leaving their jet streams crisscrossing their way across Europe.  There must be many occupying the same airspace at one time!

On our way home from the shops we talked (in German!) to the apple farmer's wife we had spoken to the other day.  She was busy tending her strawberry patch and we talked veggies and fruits!  I think the longer we stay here, the more confident we become to "give it a go" and speak to the locals.  And that is the whole idea of staying somewhere for a while!

It was a good school morning after a good weekend break. I felt refreshed and ready to face the work ahead.  Our morning was made even better by a visit from our host and neighbour, Monika, and her little girl, Mara.  Luke was immediately delighted to have a friend and they played Lego very happily for ages whilst we chatted to Monika.

Monika explained about this old house (250 years old or so) and how it is divided and was divided and reconfigured to be the three separate apartments now.  We saw around her apartment and how all the mysterious nooks and crannies of the building are arranged.  There is even a cellar for wine!

Our afternoon walk to Markdorf was so peaceful.  We went back to the Ulmer cafe where we had been twice previously and the same smiley girl was there who reminds us of my friend, Pia.  By the time were walked back, it was 6.30PM, still daylight and time for dinner.  It was probably our last visit to Markdorf as we are leaving on Friday.
Stocky German horses enjoying spring!
Luke enjoyed a lovely play time with Mara until late which made his day!
