When I looked out of the window this morning there was a flurry of snow drifting but not settling. As it is warm inside, we had no idea how cold it was outside. The low ceilings help!

Another low ceiling demonstration |
Tim and I went for our early morning
walk to the supermarket and were speckled with snow and sleet and
wondered if it would continue for the day but it didn't. It is fun in
the snow as long as you know warmth and shelter are not too far away. There were moments of blue skies today so that was nice.
As
we seemed to gather a little momentum with school work yesterday, I
thought it would be wise to continue to churn through the schedule. The
big kids are working really well and trying to catch up on their work
from last week. Luke jiggled his way through 2 days of English which
was completely exhausting.
By
mid afternoon, it was time for a walk. I had been juggling supervising three kids, feeling
stressed to the max. "Mum, what is..? Mum, can you...? Mum, Mum,
Mum..." SCREAM! I would love the time to read and do my own
study/learning, too! The kids are expected to fulfill the requirements
and have reports submitted to their schools next year accordingly. Call
me a stickler for rules, if you like! I
do know and appreciate that education is broader than the prescribed
curriculum however, there are many things kids just need to learn, like
writing skills.
Luke's
latest drawing phase is creating animals from two of more existing
animals and then we have to make up stories to go with the animals each
night. It would be ideal for him to write them down but he won't. He
loves the drawing part! His animals today were a Thorny Delephant
(Thorny Devil and elephant) and a Butterfly Cobra that can fly at you!
Great swing! |
Local lad joined Tim kicking the Aussie Rules footy! |
We have seen this sign on quite a few gates! The dog owners around here are very responsible and the dogs are well behaved. The top dogs know their place in their families!!
I guess you can't argue with that! |
We did eventually go for a walk to the school park where Tim taught a local boy how to kick an Aussie Rules football. He was surprisingly good at it! It was good for everyone to be in the fresh air.
Hot Chicken van |
On the way back we spotted "Der Hahn vom Bodensee" - a hot chicken van - which comes to Bermatingen every Wednesday and seemed to have a steady supply of customers. So, we indulged in a "Grosse" (large) chicken and hope it is tasty! Makes an easy dinner!
We are still trying to understand the German rubbish collection fully. There are various bins and colour coding and collection dates differ for all of the different bins. We know the Germans are strict so we don't want to get it wrong!!! Sooner or later, we will need to put out our rubbish.....
Another lovely day? Maybe after the school work gets done :/ yes that would do my head in too Helen :/ I guess you just have to do what you can and not try and let it consume you. The rubbish collection seems confusing, you'd think there'd be some instructions somewhere?
ReplyDeleteToo true Jane..I do feel consumed by the responsibility of it all - to be honest I feel that way at home too, even though school takes most of the teaching side, there is still homework to help with etc Fresh air is the essential part of the day! Having said all that, we feel at home here!
ReplyDeleteHi Helen. Having trouble leaving comments. Have tried to leave several and they vanish when I hit the publish button!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThinking of you all...
Thanks Gillian...the schooling is the hardest job I have ever done!...but the rest is excellent!
DeleteThat one worked! I don't get it, technology is foreign to me!! I spent ages composing all the other comments, sigh!
ReplyDeleteI very much like your room height measuring equipment :-). Also, we have exactly the same family sized swing here (although probably still in storage as they wait until winter is done before reassembling the park... and we have winter all over again right now... so white!).
ReplyDeletefind the joy in the little things and celebrate the little victories with baked goods :) I think even Mother Teresa would struggle to stay sane in your situation Helen! We're having a final burst of summer sunshine before the Autumn crispness sets in, daylight savings ends here this weekend and I'm looking forward to it being light in the morning again for a few weeks :) Easter blessings to you all, keeping you in my daily prayers and thoughts. xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks Kylie...Easter blessings all around to you as well!!...and some bakery treats...xxx
DeleteI have amended this blog as I was feeling very stressed and grumpy when I wrote it and apologies to Karl for previous comments made. Bakery goods are a highlight and a challenge for my high school German. I am understanding more each day...it all sort of comes back but the ein, eine and einer bits still confuse me...If I speak quick enough I hope they won't notice me using the wrong one!
