We were all so tired after yesterday's excursion and slept in a little. It was rainy and misty outside and dark in our basement bedrooms just perfect for a sleep in! We are glad to have chosen this quiet accommodation.
As we do like our daily walks, we all donned our raincoats and walked the 5 kms return to the shops. It is still fun shopping and buying different local things. I was told off in the Ipermarket for not wearing plastic gloves to select vegetables and fruit! I also had to queue at the pharmacy area to buy Nurofen over the counter rather than just taking it from the shelf. Subtle differences even within Europe.
School started late for the day but was overall a productive day and the time slipped by! The rain continued and so we decided we might as well stay at home and make use of the quiet day.
I asked Annika what she thought of Italy and she summed it up well saying: "It is beautiful, historical and dirty." There is a slight grubbiness about Italy: the train windows are always so filthy that you can't see out of them, the fumes from the mopeds are right at nose level and there seems to be a huge number of smokers.
Tucking into dinner! |
Dinner Italian style - simple but very filling! |
Annika made delicious pizzas for dinner and then we plugged Luke into "Despicable Me" on a laptop and Tim, Karl and I settled down at the big screen for "Pan's Labyrinth", in Spanish, with subtitles and beautiful music.
Very moving film I recall but hard going in places (PL not DM!!!)
ReplyDeleteI am heading os next week, Graham already there. Meeting him in Boston. It has been a while since I traveled abroad. Jesse holding the fort here for a few weeks. You've done a wonderful job keeping this blog up to date- very impressive! The Italian art is quite something- great photos as always Helen.
Enjoy your travels, especially sharing them with Graham while Jesse keeps the home fires burning! Pan's Labyrinth was, as you say, a brilliant film albeit disturbing at times.
