Well, it was a day when two out of three planned events occurred so all in all, given my sleep deprivation and Tim's poor health, that's not too bad! We had a slow start to the morning as Tim and I were so weary from our trip to the hospital last night.

So tired: I just kept falling asleep. |
Although buying new shoes for Annika and
Luke was top of our list it didn't happen today. By the time we
arrived in Walthamstow we decided to go straight to the church fun day
instead of buying shoes. It was a small scale, all hands on deck,
delicious home made cake and old fashioned games type of affair. Luke,
in particular, loved shelling out small change to play various games
where prizes were given out liberally! He scored quite well! We
finally had a go at the tombola. For the unintiated, like us, a tombola
involves choosing a rolled up ticket from a board and matching it with a
prize. We re-donated the first two prizes as one was a pair of Peppa
Pig socks for a little girl and the other was a vase! We came away with
a can of soup! All a bit of a laugh!

Never seen a notice like this before! FYI: Flytipping means illegal dumping of rubbish. |
We
enjoyed various BBQ selections for lunch and some amazing cakes as
well. It was terrific to finally meet Winette's husband, Michael, and
it was lovely spending quality time with him chatting. I also met up
with some other old parishioners from years ago and the time flew.

Walthamstow Market |
Tim went home as he really is quite
unwell with his ear infection. The rest of us trotted down the longest
street market in Britain, the Walthamstow Market, in search of shoes for
Annika and Luke but with no success. Shoe shopping will have to wait
for Monday now.

Lloyd Park Lake |
Our
other goal was Lloyd Park for a play for Luke and a visit to the
William Morris Gallery for Karl, Annika and I. Compared to last Sunday,
the park was packed! Luke spent the whole time building in the sand
pit and interacting with various kids. He really had a great time and
it is so good for him to have contact with kids.

This, and a few other quotes were apt. |

Familiar? That's William Morris' work. |
The William Morris Gallery is housed in his former home. The wallpapers
and furnishings he created are classics and I find them beautiful. Not
for the average suburban home as they would dominate the room, but in a
stately mansion. they look amazing. I loved the rich colours he used.
Moreover, I loved his philosophies which were dotted around the walls.

Too good to sit on! |
William Morris designs have been used for Liberty prints and I have seen them as stationery, too. They have a classic elegance about them which I love. As with most museums in London, it is free to visit.

There was a gum tree to hug! |
The gallery is small with a good hands on section for children. Luke
was too intent on playing in the sand for us to even contemplate
dragging him through another gallery.

Lloyd Park volcano. |
And that was our second Saturday in London: a day well spent doing "normal" as opposed to touristy things.
