16 June 2015 - Regent's Park and Hamleys

Tim and I had a morning walk around Kilburn.  I wanted to see St Augustine's Church, which is also known as London's Northern Cathedral.  Unfortunately, it wasn't open so we could just look outside.

We had a wander through Paddington Recreation Reserve albeit a fast paced wander with Tim.  There were squirrels and lots of birds in the undergrowth around the periphery of the park and a dear elderly man throwing bread crumbs into the bushes as he walked to feed them.

Lovely old Kilburn Park Underground Station - 100 years old
School at the moment is particularly challenging and I'm afraid my patience is stretched to the maximum.  When we are not doing school with Luke, he is a joyful little chap who is full of imagination and inventions, but school is another story.

English Garden, Regent's Park
Tim suggested that we go to Hamleys, the famous Regent Street toy shop.  It was feasible to walk along the Regent Canal, past the Zoo, through the lovely Regents Park, along Harley Street and find our way to Hamleys - so we did!
English Garden Fountain
It was a long walk, about 7 kms, but scenic and peaceful by the canal and also pleasant in the Gardens where we stopped for a snack and a spot of tree climbing and squirrel watching.  I gave a squirrel a hazelnut which it carried in its mouth all the way up a tree, not wanting to risk dropping it or sharing it!
Chinese influence?

We didn't mean to walk down Harley Street, famous for its high class medical suites, but it was interesting to do so and check out some of the plaques on buildings.
As in the King's speech!  Here was Lionel Logue's rooms.

Nerf Wars...excellent fun...

Guess who was watching over us!

Remote control flipping cars!
There were so many toys to play with!!  It was like a giant toy library.  It was difficult to know where to go to next!

HRH in Lego - and the corgi!
We had an absolute ball at Hamleys and stayed for longer than I thought we would.  It was so much fun.  The kids spent time playing with all the display toys.  There were many enthusiastic shop assistants who all knew their product really well and were enjoying their jobs as much as the kids and adults in the shop!  The Lego section was enticing and exciting and you can imagine how happy Luke was to be there!

Lego Crown Jewels
How's this for life sized!

Jelly beans - lovely and very tempting display
We walked back to Oxford Street Tube and joined the commuter crush which we are used to now!  Tim decided to run home from Hamleys but as it was late, and we still needed to cook dinner, the rest of us took the Tube.
