19 June 2015 - Back to the Natural History Museum...what a treat!

Friday at last!  I still feel like I need to celebrate the end of a week and keep remembering the days of the week.  It is easy for one day to blend with the next and before you know it, it is Sunday and there are reduced trading hours and the risk of missing out on supplies!

I was collating all of Luke's school work to photograph and then upload for sending to the distance education college and realised he hadn't done a few pages.  The motivation needed to sit down after lunch for school work came in the form of a promise of another visit to the Natural History Museum.

Tim, still not 100% and Annika with sore hips and not enthusiastic about museums in any case opted to stay home and rest.  Probably a good thing for them both.  I even suggested they might like to chill out in front of the TV, which, unlike other recent countries, is in English.  Tim ploughed on with school and Annika chilled out and then cooked lovely sweet and sour chicken for dinner!

Strange headless folk which I initially took as women in burkas as there are so many here in London.

The Natural History Museum - Luke's 2nd home!

Luke, however, skipped up our street and pretty much skipped the 6 kms to the Natural History Museum where he made a beeline for the aquatic animals and mammals sections. I hadn't realised there had existed a mammoth and a mammut and how many varieties of elephant like creatures there were.  The place is vast and very well down with loads of buttons to press and videos to watch..  We stayed until closing time (5.50 PM).

Many relatives of elephants

Mammoth tusks

Loads of mammoths and rhinos

Our journey on foot from our accommodation takes us via the lovely Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park where  there are plenty of people but they are spread out and there is plenty of space.  It is so good that a big city such as London has open spaces like this.

Rabbits and squirrels playing - in the middle of the city!!

Lovely new statue at Italian Gardens Kensington Gardens
Ah, I never tire of the Italian Gardens with all the beautiful fountains

We gave Luke the option of walking home or taking the train but he said he wanted to go along the canal again!  Still bouncing and ninja dancing as we walked! Kensington Gardens are always lovely to walk through and there is no shortage of paths to discover.  At the end of Little Venice we decided to take a double decker bus for the last couple of kms which was fun and practical!  Luke was beaming having secured a front seat at the top of the bus! What joy!

First double decker bus ride and a seat right at the front on top!

On the stairs because you can!
It was so nice after an afternoon's outing to come home to a lovely meal cooked by Annika.

  1. Looks like the front seat on a double decker could be a daily treat from now on! And I very much like the new statue you found!

    1. The old statues are not so colourful although they usually are static!
