20 September 2015 - Enkhuizen and a couple more Karel Keesmans

We had promised the kids that we'd go back to the magnificent Zuiderzee Museum.  Thankfully the day was fine and we drove to Enkhuizen and parked at the station (free).  It is only a short walk to the pier from where we could catch the ferry to the museum which we didn't do last time.  It is always nice to go on water, and especially as it didn't cost any extra to take the boat with our Museumkaarts.  The other nice thing about taking the ferry is that it dropped us off close to the row boats which were high on the list of priorities for the kids today.

We all hopped in the boats and enjoyed rowing about the water area.  The kids stopped off at the various islands and only when the next ferry boat, with more eager would be rowers arrived did they bring their boats to shore.

Back to the village we went and saw buildings we hadn't seen last time.  The museum was much more busy today, perhaps because it was a Sunday.  After a little coaxing, Luke agreed to dress in traditional Dutch costume and looked exceptionally cute!  He spent ages milking the "goat" balanced on the one legged stool.

It was a great day there and we walked back past the Dromadaris, stopping for ice creams and watching the drawbridge in action.  We could see a boat waiting to go through and up zipped the harbour mistress on her bike, precisely at 3 PM as the bells tolled, and opened the drawbridge!

Next stop was at Karl's cousin's house in Andijk.  Karl, who name is actually Karel has three cousins called Karel, an uncle and also his grandfather called Karel!  We don't think anyone in the Keesman family named any of the children of the current generation Karel!  We had met Oom (Uncle) Karel twice before in Australia and he is a spritely 84 year old who rides his bike 20kms with no trouble.  Cousin Karel and his wife Petra and daughter Linda, welcomed us warmly with coffee and Dutch biscuits.  We ended up staying for some delicious chicken soup and rolls with Tim enjoying the guitar and Karel also playing!

We were aware of over staying our welcome with Luke covorting around the place.  Tim had kindly taken him to the local park where, unfortunately, he had slipped in some dog poo and had to have an emergency shower before we headed home!  Never a boring moment!

Andik, bulb fields, and hedges

The journey home was pale and misty until the dark rain clouds gathered quite rapidly as we approached Amsterdam, then the half moon came out and all seemed still.
