13 September 2015 - The funny things that happen in Amsterdam!

After our late and busy day yesterday, we had a relaxed morning doing a bit of school work catch up and journalling.  We are still getting used to the local culture and today discovered that Plus Supermarkt is closed on Sundays whereas Jumbo isn't.  As Luke said: "Imagine all the money they are missing out on because they are not open on Sundays!"  Luke's main issue was that he missed out on some more Plus blocks - not happy!

The things we see on our journey!  One little Postman Pat vehicle towing another!
I think the autumn might be closing in on us as the slightly hazy European skies with their unique light are the norm now and the evenings are drawing in earlier.  It is a lovely time of year to be here.

Just cruising past the Rijksmuseum!

Vondel Park
We all cycled together on a mystery tour, which turned out to be another path leading to Amsterdam!  Tim decided to head off to FOAM, the Photography Museum and quite enjoyed it!  The rest of us cycled to Vondel Park - pronounced "fondle" which seems to attract all sorts of fondlers and strange bods.  Annika was feeling uneasy there, so we cycled on to Museumplein again.  Anyway, Vondel Park is named after a famous Dutch poet, writer and playwright, Josst van den Vondel, and is a large green park with lakes and trees and was to be a nice bit of green in the city.

Mr Vondel himself

Stretching a bit in Vondel Park
The Homeless World Cup was in full swing on small artificial grass fields.  We saw Ireland versus Grenada and they were quick!  What a great atmosphere!

As I was minding the bikes so Karl could have a look at the games, I was interviewed on film by the organisers of the event for their website! Watch this space!  Of course, I probably looked a bit bedraggled with my wild bike hair and clothes I've been wearing for the past 9 months or may be I just had a friendly sort of face!

Ice cream on Museumplein grassed area

Haha!  Toothless plus icecream!

Homeward bound across all the canals.
Dinner was easy as we had delicious re-heated food thanks to the kind Van der Schaafs.  We had a relaxed movie night enjoying one of the many DVD's here that we can use!
