24 August 2015 - Kirkton of Rayne

Who would believe our sensational sunny day yesterday would precede this dreary foggy day?  Dreary day = generally bad mood all round and an extremely challenging day with school and Luke.

I wrongly thought that we would benefit from a home day but the result is a wound up Luke and a feeling of frustration. “Grrrrrrr” : There, I’ve said it and hope the evening picks up a bit!  It is the type of evening when it would be lovely to chill with a good book but believe it or not, it is very hard to get time to do so.  My evening work involves supporting the big kids with their submissions, not that they need much help, but they like a bit of proof reading of big assignments before they submit them.

The experience of distance education has been enlightening in many ways but most of all, for me, that I am glad I didn’t follow an alternative career of teaching children!  There is enough teaching being a parent without the formal side of learning as well.

This photo says it all!  It is lovely despite the wet weather.
It was most definitely a soup type of day as rainy days always are!  Coupled with lovely focaccia we’ve discovered, lunch was easy and satisfying.

The main road around here!
We did decide to tootle into Inverurie, the nearest town, to find the post office and have a walk around.  The grey granite used for building in this area looks drab and dark on a drookit day and it is all a bit monochromatic.  Inverurie is smaller than we thought and the shops looked deserted – well it was 4.30PM on a rainy Monday!

The only bit of colour in Inverurie

Stane dyke and barley fields
Driving home on the one lane roads flanked by fields felt cosy in the car with the demister blaring.  No hills visible today, trees in the fields were only dark grey silhouettes and the golden barley bringing the only colour to the vista.

  1. Imagine if you were there for the Winter!! Dark by the end of the school day- not much fun. Here we are enjoying hints of Spring which is lifting my spirits after quite a grey Winter.

    1. The subtle colours here in the pale light are wonderful....my trusty camera is now not zooming in - hoping it will last the distance!

  2. ooh, soup and bread weather in summer... lucky you had such a lovely day yesterday! I was thinking of you as James submitted his VCE subject preferences over the weekend, do Tim and Annika need to do this long distance for next year or can it wait till you get home?

    1. Re subject selection - yep! all done online - the wonders of internet. It is amazing how much admin work there is to do re things at home when we are travelling . When I travelled when I was young and single, all the things we have to do now were not relevant - so care free was I!!!
