1 August 2015 - A relaxed Saturday at "home"

It is good and necessary to have some time to just "be".  It was a slow morning and I was revved into action by Tim who wanted to go for a walk with me.
Very nice for a morning stroll
We chose the canal walk all the way to the M40 bridge which I hadn't walked before but Tim had on one of his exploratory runs.  The new shoes we bought for him are sadly disappointing as they "gobble" up his feet and cause blister upon blister which is very unpleasant.  At the risk of promoting brands, I think we'll have to find some Asics as they have proved to be reliably comfortable and right for his feet.

Approaching the lock

The morning was pleasant, just perfect for walking, a nice midsummer temperature of about 20 C!  The canal was peaceful with a few long boaters chugging slowly past.  On our route there is a quaint sort of canal which was being filled as we passed by.

Flat sweet peaches with tiny raspberry sized pips - we have seen them in Turkey, France, Germany and also here in UK.
On the subject of "hot" weather, when we were standing at the bus stop yesterday, a boy in front of us had a blood nose and as we offered our paper towel to help, his mum said that he always gets blood noses in the heat.  We had a little giggle when we told her we were Australian and heat takes on a whole new meaning when it comes to our summers.

Discovered this sign today!
Tim and I went to Tescos, the superstore, to buy some tracksuit trousers because it is so cool in the evenings and he was feeling chilly!  It is so nice for sleeping!

Then it was school, would you believe on a Saturday!!  We juggle the schedule to suit us which is great as we did no school yesterday.  It is a very flexible existence but does take commitment.

Our local lock!
It was time for a girls' walk in the late afternoon and  Annika, who has a sore hip, and I thought we'd go for a gentle walk on flat ground rather than the gravelly bumpy canal path.  On our venture, we found an Asics shop!! Yeah,we'll be back with Tim early next week.

I've been thinking about all the funny old English place names: Gloucester  (said Gloster), Worcester (said Wooster), Leicester (said Lester), Warwick (said Warrick), Bicester (said Bister), Thames ( said Temms), Ledbury (said Ledbry) and many more. How are we supposed to know how to pronounce them?  And then there's funny pnes which we can pronounce: Milton Keynes, Stone Edith, Snatchup, Sidcup and Wendlebury. We do have Yackandandah, Toolangatta and Burpengarry which I'm sure give visitors a giggle!!

It is exactly 4 months until we leave Europe!  Time seems to be flying by.
